Winter set in, and hibernation mode began. Now summer has come and gone, and we've realized that for the two social butterflies that we are, we've seriously deprived you of some amazing happenings in our great city- we sincerely appologise!
So lets pick up where we left off, shall we:
An unexpected blizzard and below zero temperatures did not stop the crowds from flocking to local hotspot, Belgo restaurant, on Stephen Ave, Saturday, April 2, 2011. The occasion happened to be the World Fashion Channel’s premier of designer Nicole Rita Tomney’s (NRT Fashions) most recent collection. The star-studded red carpet provided the chance to get a photo taken by professional photographers. The preshow cocktail party featured three models mingling amongst the crowd wearing nothing but jackets made from different colored wigs (red, blonde and brunette). It was a wonderful prelude to a classy evening of high fashion and local talent.

Word Fashion Premier- NRT’s Pure in Plastic

It was a wonderful prelude to a classy evening of high fashion and local talent.
The brains and talent behind NRT, Nicole Rita Tomney, dubbed her line “Pure in Plastic”, and her creativity of using plastic pieces to highlight her designs gave off an edgy (almost dominatrix) feel to her clothing. Her line exudes a kind of “outside the box”, ‘no fear’ creativity and confidence, reminiscent of such celebrities as Michael Jackson, Madonna and Lady Gaga (to name a few). As mentioned, dominatrix/bondage seemed to be the theme of the evening; exemplified through the use of dark make- up, vibrant colored wigs, creative updos, fishnet stockings, black leggings and a whole lot of black leather. Models strutted the runway wearing plastic veil creations over top of short skirts, shorts, leather corsets and long black cloaks. As well, skin colored crop tops were seen adorned with taped X’s strategically placed on the bust.
All in all, the evening was a great success! Not only that, but with the help of the World Fashion Channel, Calgary was given the opportunity to premier one extremely talented and evolving designer, both locally and internationally. Congrats Nicole, we definitely look forward to seeing more from NRT!
